Slim Jim social media

In this blog I'll be talking about the popular meat stick snack brand and how they're social media presence is very good from what I've seen from big companies. I chose this company because sometimes when I'm on social media like Instagram or Tik Tok, I'll see a viral post and check the comments to see that SlimJim has written something pretty funny, but they also make sure to hint at their own brand while doing so. They also incorporate a lot of trends or challenges into their advertising on social media and the followers love it. SlimJims value proposition is to deliver cheap, convenient, and protein filled snacks to people who are looking for something they can quickly eat on the go.

           Feedback from online community

SlimJim receives thousands of comments on their
posts and I've divided them into three types.
Positive, negative, and people voicing their concerns.

As you can see here, Instagram user
@aidenstick.8190 has left a positive review letting SlimJim know that he is very hungry and needs to satiate his hunger with their product. To which the official SlimJim brand replies with an N and an ice emoji, or "nice". Jokes aside, people do enjoy their product enough to leave comments.

In this example, Instagram user @kiran_kargbo is clearly very upset about the prices of the SlimJim products. Prices vary wherever you live, so this person might be in an area where the cost is higher, but typically I found they are around $2.

Here we can see Instagram user @jenwithatb stating their concerns over sodium nitrite, an ingredient used to make SlimJims. They explain how it can cause health issues to people who consume it.

So, the company faces a lot of different comments about their product, but it's good to have consumers reaching out and better that the brand responds to them most of the time. The official SlimJim pages have a lot of followers on social media with 5.1 million on Tik Tok and almost 1.2 million on Instagram. Multiple times a week across all platforms they post meme stye branding and target people who are looking for a laugh. They seem to have built a community of people who are mostly supportive and engaged with them due to their social media presence. They call themselves " The CEO of verified comments on Tik Tok" and this relates to them being such a big brand and commenting on niche videos in comedic, intrusive, and friendly ways that other companies wouldn't. What they did worked so well that other large companies that used social media started do the same thing. To them, building brand recognition is very important as they have a low-priced product and they have done a great job getting people to talk about them, and with that many followers, I think they are doing very well in that marketing aspect.

Now, if I was a part of the social media/ PR team for SlimJim, would I do anything differently? Yes, I would keep more tabs on current social media trends or even bring back old ones as well as post every day. I would hire a team of 3-4 people who are all very invested in social media PR and have them come up with new posts every day. The more you post, the more chance of one of the posts going viral.
Writing about SlimJims social media followers and interactions has made me realize that no matter how big of a brand you are, it is always good to be open with your customers. As well as creating a community of people that is sourced around your product.
